He won five Premier League championships, an FA Cup, three League Cups, the 2008 Champions League, the Europa League, and a Club World Cup while playing for Manchester United at Old Trafford. He was named the PFA Player of the Year in 2010, as well as the Young Player of the Year thrice and three times in the PFA Team of the Year.

Even after all of that success and two stints at his boyhood team, Everton, the Premier League star still wishes he could have played for Celtic in his playing days.

Before a group of United and Celtic legends squared off on Saturday in a match that raised more than £1 million for the Manchester United Foundation, Rooney made the following statement to Celtic TV:

“I’ve always supported Celtic and I know they want to win,” the author said.

“So, yeah, I’m sorry that I missed the chance. I would have hoped to try out for Celtic at some point, but that opportunity was lost when things didn’t work out. I always want to do well and keep an eye out for this club.
