After Newcastle United exit the FA Cup, Eddie Howe refutes “nonsense” claims.

Newcastle United’s trophy hopes are dashed for another season, following a disastrous night at the Etihad Stadium.

Eddie Howe has stated that he and his team will have “no negativity” despite Newcastle United’s final chance to win a trophy being taken away at Manchester City.  The key quotes from Eddie Howe's press conference ahead of Newcastle United's clash with Wolves - VAVEL International

Howe and his team have only 10 games left in the Premier League, and a spot in the Europa Conference League appears to be their best option. However, once United were eliminated from the FA Cup, Howe dismissed speculation of the season’s end as “nonsense”.

In his post match press conference, Howe said: “We have a responsibility in the last 10 games. We will always have our targets for the season because we are building for the future and to be the most competitive team we can be.

“There will be no negativity from me or the players. We know the importance of representing the club well in every game and every single moment. We still have a huge amount to play for.”

Howe was then asked whether it was Europe or bust for him and his team. The head coach reflected.

“That’s our aim. There is a huge amount to play for, people say our season is over, and that’s absolute nonsense.

“We’re driving forward to try to get our best form back and try to win as many games as we can. We aim to finish the season in a positive way.

“And I have no doubt we will take that into next season as well. We have a lot to be positive about, and we also have a lot to analyse and reflect on.”

The game was arguably over after 32 minutes, as two deflected strikes from Bernardo Silva ended hopes of a shock win.

Howe said: “It was an uphill battle. We covered a lot of ground, but when we had our moments, our last pass was lacking. The difference is their technical quality and their players who can get out of tight situations – it’s at the highest level. We’re trying to get to their level.”
