What Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis has done is dangerous and risky, according to Alex Crook.

TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook believes Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has just taken a significant gamble. On the breakfast broadcast earlier this morning, the conversation shifted to the Reds’ current situation.

Why Nottingham Forest are ready to end 30 years in the wilderness

Forest are currently in the Premier League’s relegation zone. This comes after the Reds were docked four points for violating financial fair play standards and are currently 18th.

That ruling was issued last Monday, and Forest owner Marinakis has one week to determine whether or not to appeal. Yesterday, Crook stated that the Reds would begin an appeal procedure.

Forest now has until the middle of April to file their grounds for appeal. However, it is unclear when an outcome will be published, which could be after the season has ended.

Crook has issued his verdict on the entire situation. It’s fair to say that he’s not entirely convinced that this is a fantastic idea from a Forest standpoint.

We received an update from Crook earlier today, which basically said that the Reds were optimistic that their appeal would be successful. He now believes Forest owner Marinakis is taking some risks.

Earlier this morning, the TalkSPORT Breakfast Show discussed Forest’s intention to appeal. Crook has expressed his thoughts on the subject, believing that the Reds may come to regret it.

He said live on TalkSPORT this morning: “Given the sheer number of players they’ve signed – even in January, they were active up until the end of the window, it does feel like they might have just stuck two fingers up to the rules and regulations. Did they need to sign Jesse Lingard on a ridiculous deal?

“I’m not sure they’re going to win this appeal. I think four points seems fair when you take into account their mitigation. To say there is potential for the points deduction to be increased if their appeal is frivolous, I think this is a very risky move from Evangelos Marinakis. April 12th is the big date now, that’s when they need to submit their appeal. When we get an outcome, who knows?”

Nobody knows which way the wind will blow for Forest

This entire issue is now bordering on farce. Forest appears to be in line for a bigger point deduction, however this is thought to be a stretch and improbable.

Marinakis, the forest chief, is a man who usually gets his way. However, it appears that he has taken a risk by filing an appeal.

If the club loses more points and falls further behind, major questions will be raised. Hopefully, it will not come to that, but for the time being, the uncertainty remains.
