Club suffers ‘hard blow’ after Nottingham Forest deal fails – ‘Million dollar loss’ leaves bitter taste.

Nottingham Forest is no longer obligated to sign Gonzalo Montiel from Sevilla this summer since he will not be able to play the number of games required to activate the clause.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, which claims the Spanish club’s’million-dollar loss’ is now official following the last round of fixtures.

They add that Sevilla believed they had secured a guaranteed income for next summer in Montiel since his loan deal with Nottingham Forest included a buy clause if he played a particular amount of games.

If Montiel had appeared in 50% of Nottingham Forest’s games this season, the club would have been required to buy the defender for €11 million, but that is no longer possible.

This season, his playing time has been limited due to injuries and the fact that he is not in either Steve Cooper’s or Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans.

Montiel needs eight more appearances to activate the clause, but Nottingham Forest only has seven games remaining because they are out of cup competitions.

Thus, the duty is lifted, and it remains to be seen whether Nottingham Forest would bargain for him or simply allow him to return to Sevilla.

In any case, Sevilla are dissatisfied since they know they will not receive their €11 million and appear to expect that any negotiations for him would be for a lower number, which is a ‘hard blow’ all around for a side facing a financially challenging summer.
