Daniel Farke stated that he and Leeds United never got carried away when they defeated promotion rivals Leicester City and Ipswich Town earlier in the season – and now, after suffering their first defeat in a long time at the hands of Coventry City, he will not allow heads to drop at the most critical time of the season.

Leicester City defeated Birmingham City in dramatic fashion on Saturday, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opening the score before Jay Stansfield equalized via Mads Hermansen’s attempted clearance.

Stephy Mavididi appeared at the end, however, to secure all three points for the Foxes at the King Power Stadium, their second home win of the week, and to send his side back top.

With Ipswich also losing against top six and East Anglian rivals Norwich City earlier in the day, City has had the perfect weekend of results, with six games remaining and trips to Millwall and Plymouth Argyle coming up. Leeds, who had not been beaten in 2024 before today, now need to start another unbeaten streak. Farke will attempt to maintain a measured approach.

“You know what is necessary to achieve big success. In this game, you make sure you do not overreact to losses,” he told LeedsLive. “Never too high after big wins over Ipswich or Leicester, never too low after defeats. Did not expect to win every game and get an easy promotion. Always some stones and rocks in your way. Bring this experience and calmness is important. Do not fall asleep, do not be calm and show a reaction on Tuesday.

“We allow ourselves to suffer a little. Don’t want to be too bullish after a loss. I like to stay humble and self-critical. Not the day for fighting messages. After a loss you should stay calm. Be analytical tomorrow about the game and from tomorrow afternoon we go again.

“We could have done without a reminder about the quality in this league. Did I expect to be unbeaten through 2024? No. Am I disappointed we lose? Yes. Good opponent. Have to say congratulations. Accept their effectiveness and say congratulations. Improve this part of our game.”
