Too many penalties are awarded without a clear reason, yet my players are moral winners. Philippe Clement expresses annoyance over Celtic’s second goal at Ibrox.

There are still plenty of questions after Rangers’ 3-3 draw with their arch rivals, but things could have been considerably worse for the Ibrox club.

How Rangers have racked up a second recent remarkable run without conceding a league penalty

Rangers fell behind within 30 seconds and were 2-0 down by the time John Beaton blew the half-time whistle.

Clement labelled his team the “moral winners” during the fightback, which saw Rangers pull level at 2-2 before surrendering immediately.

“I believe you are really pleased to see games like that. Obviously, I wasn’t pleased with the beginning. My Scottish assistant has a word for it, but I won’t use it during a press conference.

It’s the worst possible scenario in an Old Firm game to fall behind after one minute, especially the way we did. So that’s a major setback for the team, the supporters, and everything. We didn’t fall down, but we weren’t very good on the ball. The wind made for a unique circumstance as well.

Monaco appoint Philippe Clement as coach

It was challenging to play very good combination play, but we didn’t quite do enough. We had a couple chances left in the first half to score, Celtic had also a few.

It’s unfortunate because this team returns. I believe every manager and player in the world wants this regulation modified. Because I know it’s a penalty now, but if a ball is brought in at that speed in front of goal and it’s touched by the head and deflected, and you jump up and try to take your arm away, but it touches your arm, it’s a penalty under the rules.

So I have nothing to say about the decision regarding the referee, or VAR, or anything, but everyone who is playing football says, “phew, too many penalties are given in that without a good purpose.” for it’. So that’s frustrating to go 0-2 into half time, it could’ve been 1-2 then you hope in that way to stay in the game.

I believe we showed our true faces in the second half. We demonstrated the true things that I want to see: a never-stopping team with a lot of resilience, hunger, and determination to affect the outcome.

To do the right thing, to create opportunities rather than squander them, and then it became a weird scenario for you. For us, the scenario that I desired. Not with the 2-2 and then the 2-3, of course, but we obviously deserve at least one point today based on what we’ve shown. Finally, I believe the moral winners of this day will emerge.

Because a few months ago, this club would not have been able to react after a 0-2 loss in an Old Firm, and I doubt many other teams could have. So it’s difficult to come back from a 0-2 deficit in a game like this, as well as to feel the disappointment of your fans when you go into halftime in the locker room. And as a result, I am quite proud of my guys.”
