Bruno Guimaraes remains linked with a move away from Newcastle United.
Manchester City and Arsenal are allegedly eyeing a summer transfer for Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
The Brazilian remains the subject of heavy transfer rumours, having played for the Magpies since his £40 million move from Lyon in January 2022. Guimaraes was rewarded with a new five-year deal in October last year, but his £100 million release clause has cast uncertainty on his future.
Paris Saint-Germain has been widely associated with the 26-year-old, with his agent, Alexis Malavolta, making frequent trips to Paris. The Daily Telegraph reports that Guimaraes is aware of Man City and Arsenal’s interest.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has stated his wish to keep Guimaraes for as long as possible, but cannot provide any guarantees.
“Let me tell you players like Bruno, they are not around every corner,” said Howe earlier this month. They are very rare. Bruno should be appreciated for everything he brings. My intention would be to keep Bruno at the club for as long as we possibly can.
“I can never make guarantees though. That would be absolutely foolish of me. We have been in football long enough to know you don’t know what is going to happen tomorrow. He is an integral part of the team and playing very well.”
Meanwhile, Guimaraes has settled in the North East after purchasing a new residence. But he, too, is unsure about the future.
He remarked after scoring the winner against Fulham on April 6: “I hope to remain much longer. I don’t know what the future holds, but I hope to play more for Newcastle United.” While Newcastle clearly wants to maintain their top players, the club’s CEO, Darren Eales, said in January that every player ‘has a price’ as the club works to comply with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Club record signing. Alexander Isak is also receiving notice from abroad following his brace against Tottenham Hotspur last time out, seeing him reach 21 goals for the season.
However, unlike Guimaraes, Isak does not have a release clause, giving United a far stronger negotiating position with the Swede.
