What Evangelos Marinakis bizzarely claimed about Mark Clattenburg amid calls for the resignation of Nottingham Forest’s referee analyst

Some statements made by Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis about Mark Clattenburg in 2020 suddenly appear highly relevant in light of Gary Neville’s comments.

Forest are once again in the firing line, and they’re gaining a reputation this season, and not all of it is favourable.

Last week, the club announced hefty season card price increases, and on Sunday, Forest effectively questioned Stuart Attwell’s ethics.

Alan Shearer and Micah Richards were sharply critical of the Forest statement, and others have spoken in.

Neville was possibly the most critical, implying that Clattenburg should resign from his position as the club’s referee analyst immediately.

Now, certain comments made about Clattenburg in 2020 by Marinakis’ other team Olympiacos appear to be quite interesting.

Clattenburg comments from Marinakis in 2020 are now intriguing

Based on what Olympiacos said about Clattenburg in 2020, it’s unclear why Forest ever hired him.

The statement said that Olympiacos lost faith in Clattenburg.

The incident arose when Clattenburg was the head of referees in Greece, and Marinakis believed that standards had deteriorated.

Olympiacos were dissatisfied with the officials Clattenburg chose for particular games and demanded him to justify his judgements.

Finally, that was four years ago, and there was certainly some sort of truce when Clattenburg left that position.

Neville has no right to tell Clattenburg what to do

It’s a little rich of Neville to tell Clattenburg to resign. Okay, Forest should not have questioned Attwell’s integrity, but it is none of his concern.

Neville certainly has a grudge to grind with Clattenburg, and it’s obvious right now.

The former FIFA referee is simply functioning as an advisor at Forest, and Clattenburg is attempting to help the club understand why certain decisions are made.

It would be fascinating to learn how he thinks about the club’s statement on Sunday, but a resignation is quite improbable at this point.

This statement from 2020 is intriguing, given that Marinakis has recently hired Clattenburg at Forest.

However, nothing shocks us these days at Forest, and in our opinion, only one.
