Bullish Brendan Rodgers has reiterated his opinion that Celtic “come alive” at this stage of the season, warning his players that they are not on holiday.

Heading into the post-split fixtures, the Irishman believes his Celtic side is in good shape for the remaining five games, but concedes there is still a long way to go. Rangers appeared to be in pole position to win the Scottish Premiership, but after losing to Ross County and drawing with Dundee, the pendulum has swung back to Glasgow’s green half.

Some analysts and supporters regarded Philippe Clement’s statements following the win against St Mirren as mind games designed to put pressure on him and his players ahead of the vital run-in. Pat Nevin, a BBC analyst and former Scotland player, argued that this was the precise time Rodgers ramped up the title “pressure gauge” on their opponents.

When asked on Celtic TV about his words about “coming alive” towards the end of the season and how they were viewed by the fans, Rodgers responded, “That is the expectation. We are not on holiday.

“We are here to win and we are here to win in the best possible fashion that we can. That has always been my mantra. We are not just here to win, we are here to win in the best way possible.

“I think we sense that and we feel that as a club. Everything is in our hands to achieve what we want to achieve, and that is what we are focussing on.”
