Fabrizio Romano gives Rangers and Celtic optimism in the Bristol City transfer race.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Bristol City’s Tommy Conway, with Celtic and Rangers interested in the Scottish U-21 international.

Bristol City re-signed Tommy Conway in January, but the striker is attracting interest from the Premier League and other top leagues, according to Fabrizio Romano.FA Cup hero Tommy Conway eager for more after Bristol City shock West Ham | LiveScore

The 21-year-old has taken over as the club’s main forward from Andi Weimann, but he missed the start of the season with a hamstring injury. He has been in decent form since his return in September, scoring nine goals in 33 appearances in all competitions as he continues to develop.

Following the announcement that Conway had been called up again to Scotland’s U-21 squad, Fabrizio Romano provided the following update. Conway was born in Taunton, England, but is of Scottish descent through a grandparent who was born and raised in Stirling, and it appears that Conway wishes to represent the nation north of the border.

Romano stated, “Tommy Conway, called up by the U-21 Scotland team. At the moment, there’s still no agreement over a new deal with Bristol City, but no final decision has been made yet.

“Several clubs are monitoring Conway in the Premier League and other top leagues as his current contract expires in June 2025.”

Conway has an obvious eye for goal at such a young age, so it’s no surprise that both the Premier League and the Scottish Premiership are keeping track of him. His performance in the FA Cup, in particular, will not go unnoticed.

Conway scored the game-winning goal in the FA Cup against Premier League side West Ham United at Ashton Gate, after earning his team a replay in the first game at London Stadium.

He followed that up by scoring his ninth goal of the season for the Robins in a 3-2 loss to high-flying Ipswich Town last night, with a looping header into the far corner late on to put his team ahead 2-1.

Bristol City’s sale-to-buy policy

The Robins have excelled at selling key players for high prices in recent years, so they will not be held hostage if forced to sell Conway this summer.

Adam Webster, Alex Scott, Lloyd Kelly, and Antoine Semenyo have proven to be good investments, and the recruitment team has been able to replace them with young talent who will develop into the next players on Bristol City’s conveyor belt.

Conway is an academy graduate, but he is one of several young stars, including Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Sam Bell, and Jason Knight, who will be looking to help Liam Manning’s side advance to the next stage and qualify for the play-offs next year.

However, Conway will undoubtedly be among those who leave unless terms can be reached with the player, as he is in the final year of his contract at Ashton Gate.
