Celtic won a crucial match against Dundee on Sunday, but former Rangers striker and current Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd sparked outrage with his post-game comments.
As Celtic’s James Forrest scored a superb second goal to secure the game, Boyd immediately questioned the goal’s legality, implying a probable handball.
The goal, which occurred after Forrest regained control and slashed through the Dundee defence to score between the keeper’s legs, was quickly reviewed by VAR and upheld. However, rather than recognising the winger’s perseverance and skill, Boyd speculated on a possible handball, overshadowing the moment of brilliance.
After the match when looking back at the goal, Boyd started: “Is there a handball in there? I’m just checking.”
James McFadden, also providing analysis for Sky Sports, interjected, pushing Boyd to recognize the quality of Forrest’s finish. “Do you not just want to talk about how good a finish it is? You finally get a good goal and you’re looking for a handball,” McFadden said.
Boyd defensively replied, “I was just looking to see if there was one. Just asking the question.”
Having watched the footage intently, I don’t see the probable handball, but Boyd was simply trying to be the centre of attention and put doubt on what ended out to be the winning goal.
