Following the star’s expulsion from the starting lineup, Newcastle United has been advised to make a serious effort to capture Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.
In an attempt to shed light on Sterling’s future, his camp issued a contentious statement last weekend, one hour prior to their season opener against Manchester City.
Despite playing a major role in the team’s preseason tour of the United States, Sterling has not appeared in either of Enzo Maresca’s two matchday squads this season. His absence against his former team last weekend was unexpected, and the Magpies may be able to capitalize on it later in the transfer window.
“Raheem Sterling is contracted to Chelsea for the next three years,” the announcement said, and it was made public as soon as Chelsea had shared the matchday squad on social media. In order to perform individual training, he returned to England two weeks ahead of schedule. He has had a successful preseason under the new coach, with whom he has established a cordial working relationship.
“We expected Raheem to play in this weekend’s match in some capacity, given his inclusion in official club pre-match material this week. He is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level for Chelsea FC and the fans, who he holds in high regard.”
“As a camp, we are eager to get more information because we have always had positive communication and assurances from Chelsea FC regarding Raheem’s future with the team. We will keep assisting Raheem in his goal to have a successful start to the upcoming season up until then.”
But since Maresca maintained that Sterling’s exclusion from the team was a “technical decision,” significant events have transpired.
“At this time, he is training separately [from the first team],” he stated. It’s pretty obvious what the deal is with him. His circumstances have not been updated.
“It would be best if they left if he was searching for the minutes. He is a Chelsea player and has a contract here if they decide not to go. [Am I] being harsh? Not in my opinion. I make an effort to be truthful. If it’s unclear, let me reiterate: Raheem is not in the squad because, in our conversation prior to the City game, I stated that he will find it difficult to play meaningful minutes for us.”
Pundit and former Premier League midfielder Paul Merson feels Eddie Howe needs to step up in this case and make sure his team secures one more attacking threat before the transfer window closes later this month, despite Howe’s claim that he isn’t involved in many of the decisions over the club’s negotiations.
Merson, who has supported Newcastle to defeat Bournemouth 2-0, stated the following in an interview with Sportskeeda: “Newcastle was poor last week, but they still hung on with 10 men and managed to get three important points.” They should defeat Bournemouth, who might struggle in the absence of Solanke’s goals. This season, I think the Cherries will have difficulty.
Evanilson, who was signed by them from Porto, needs to start playing right away. Considering how many goals Solanke scored the previous season, that is a significant task for any new player in the Premier League.
“If I were Newcastle, I would attempt to acquire Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling. It would be an interesting front three if Alexander Isak played through the middle, Anthony Gordon on the other flank, and Sterling on the other.
