Brentford set to rival Marseille for Everton’s Neal Maupay

According to Foot Mercato, Olympique de Marseille is prioritising a move for Neal Maupay (28), with talks apparently ongoing with Everton FC as they seek common ground ahead of the transfer window’s closing day on August 30th.

Marseille is in need of a backup striker after Faris Moumbagna (24) sustained a major injury. The understudy to Elye Wahi (21) ruptured his ACL minutes into his substitute debut in Les Phocéens’ season opener against Stade Brestois.

Everton rejected Marseille’s original approach because the striker is in the final year of his contract and they want to sell him before the conclusion of the window. However, Marseille is understood to be able to give merely a loan with the option to buy.

A reunion for Neal Maupay?

The French club is undoubtedly aware that they do not have much time to waste. According to Foot Mercato, Brentford FC, where Maupay was on loan last season, is interested in making a move for the striker, who is a fan favourite in West London. While it was previously claimed that Maupay was interested in returning to another old squad, OGC Nice.
