During a 1-1 Championship tie at Carrow Road on Saturday, the Tunisian international made a cameo appearance for the Blades from the bench in the second half.

In an effort to bolster their midfield options before Friday’s 11pm deadline, Norwich has identified Slimane, who played in Denmark at Brondby before signing the Yorkshire team ahead of the Premier League match of the previous season.

A rival in the Championship has expressed interest in signing the 23-year-old, according to a Sheffield Star story on Tuesday. He was left out of the Blades’ League Cup lineup against Barnsley.

After Saturday’s stalemate, City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup said the Canaries were still looking for attacking reinforcements. Slimane has now become City’s top target.

Slimane, who moved to England and performed in the top level last season, is considered as another number eight option, but he can also play farther forward and anywhere across the middle of the park.

The Copenhagen-born midfielder played for Denmark’s Under-19 team, although he currently has 34 caps for Tunisia, having participated in World Cup qualifying matches as well as the African Cup of Nations.

The Brazilian Reinier of Real Madrid is still a player that City is keeping an eye on, but Slimane is thought to be eager about moving to Carrow Road.

After arriving at Bramall Lane in the summer of 2023 for an alleged €2.7 million, the Tunisian signed a deal that would keep him there at least until 2026. 15 percent of any sales exceeding €1.1 million is allegedly owed to the Danish club.

After their respective League Cup fixtures on Tuesday night, Thorup and Blades’ manager Chris Wilder may anticipate being questioned about the reports.

In the summer transfer window, Norwich has added six senior players. Oscar Schwartau, Slimane’s old teammate at Brondby, is listed as the substitute for Tuesday’s cup match at Crystal Palace.
