Devin Heroux’s Twitter bio describes him as a CBC News/Olympics and Paralympics Reporter. Based in Toronto. He was born in Saskatoon, but on Wednesday night, he found himself sitting in the North Stand, experiencing the raw passion of Scottish football.

Heroux might be working on a feature on Canadians in Scottish football, led by Alistair Johnston, and he could have been in the Media Section, but for an authentic taste of football in one of its most storied arenas, he was among the fans as Celtic turned on the style.

After some lackluster recent performances, Celtic were at full throttle last night; for any visitor, the combination of fan passion and exciting direct football on the pitch makes for a lively cocktail.

Even when subdued, the atmosphere at Celtic Park is far superior to many of England’s fabled stadiums, where traditional fans have been priced out of the market.

Johnston did not score, but he contributed significantly to Celtic’s best performance of the season, partnering well with Yang Hyun-jun.

When Heroux returns to Toronto, he will have a better understanding of Scottish football and the unique circumstances that contribute to Celtic’s global appeal.
