A former Celtic star has spoken out about the ‘bad relationship’ that led to his departure from the club.
Former Celtic striker Olivier Ntcham has spoken out about his’very terrible relationship’ with the club prior to his departure in 2021. The Cameroon international born in France appeared in 87 league games for the Hoops, earning eight trophies in four years, three of which were Premiership crowns.
After a brief loan spell with Marseille in 2021, he left the club permanently and joined Championship side Swansea City. Many were astonished by the nature of his departure, with the midfielder foregoing the opportunity to win additional championships to join a second-tier club overseas.
But speaking to the Daily Record, he has revealed how he became a little weary with winning at Celtic, while a poor connection with the club also pushed him away from Parkhead. “I left Celtic because I didn’t think I could win any more trophies with them at the time,” he said. “I was there for three seasons, and we won everything, even the awards.
“So I thought it was the right moment to leave. But I had some disagreements with the club because they didn’t want me to leave. I left anyway and because of that, we had a very bad relationship. But I don’t have any bad thoughts towards Celtic. At the end of the day, this is football and football is like that sometimes. I wish them the best and I was very happy while I was there.”
Recalling the time he scored the winner during an Old Firm match in 2018, Ntcham, who joined Samsunspor in Turkey from Swansea in 2023, said: “It was great; it felt amazing to score the only goal. There are no words to describe this type of game, but it was excellent. The feeling, the packed stadium, everything. The stadium shook, and the moment I scored that goal was unforgettable. It was an incredible experience, and I still can’t convey how excited I was.
