A potentially pivotal meeting between Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers is now just days away, and the visitors have received some positive news on the injury front ahead of the Ibrox battle.

Brendan Rodgers has already welcomed back Reo Hatate to his squad ahead of Sunday’s 3-0 win against Livingston, while captain Callum McGregor is also back in contention after missing the previous five weeks due to an Achilles injury.

However, the former Liverpool and Leicester City manager is due to receive a third boost as winger Luis Palma nears full fitness and is expected to be called up for Sunday’s encounter.

The Honduran international has not played for Celtic since a late substitute cameo in a 7-1 thrashing of Dundee in February, when he sustained a muscle injury in training. SunSport has reported that the £4 million man is ‘ahead of schedule’ in his desire to return and will be engaged in training ahead of the trip to Ibrox.

If Palma passes those exercises, the winger will be included in what is anticipated to be a nearly full-strength Celtic squad as Rodgers’ team looks to score a decisive blow in the Premiership title race.

Meanwhile, John Beaton has been selected as the referee for Sunday’s Old Firm showdown. The appointment comes barely a month after Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers labelled the official as ‘incompetent’ after he made a series of contentious decisions as Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in Celtic’s 2-0 loss to Hearts last month.
