The chase for the Scottish Premiership resumes this weekend when Ibroix meet St Mirren.
Ally McCoist has declared that Rangers’ title race is far from finished, but admits that manager did not see their “collapse” in the match against Celtic.
A disastrous week in the title race saw Philippe Clement’s side give Celtic the advantage in the run-in after defeating Ross County and drawing with Dundee – with Brendan Rodgers’ side now leading by three points at the summit before a weekend of Scottish Cup semi-finals put league action on hold. However, Rangers’ hero believes there will be many more twists and turns in the run-up to Callum McGregor or James Tavernier lifting the Cup.
Before the match against St Mirren this weekend, McCoist told Tribal Football: “The signs were there, and I’ll explain why.” They lost to Motherwell at home (their first game in March) and performed poorly. But they got away with it because Celtic fell to Hearts in the same round, so it was sort of overlooked. I could tell something wasn’t right in their (Celtic) camp.
“To be honest, I couldn’t see a collapse (by Rangers) of that size coming. With the draw against Celtic they’ve only taken five points out of a possible 15.
“I really don’t think it’s finished. The one thing that will have to happen, I think, is that Rangers will have to go to Celtic and win. But looking at the other teams, a side like Kilmarnock are doing really, really well and both Rangers and Celtic have dropped points already against them.”
