“It’s tighter than I thought,” A Former Rangers Legend makes bold Celtic prediction. That could risk irking The Teddy Bears.

In an interview with PLZ Soccer, former Rangers midfielder Ian Murray predicted that Celtic would win the Old Firm rivalry at Ibrox on Sunday.

While speaking with a press outlet (5 April), the current Raith Rovers manager was asked for his prediction for the game, which many people consider a must-win game.

Despite the fact that the game will be played at Ibrox with no away fans, Murray feels Celtic’s experience at this time of the season and in championship chases will make the difference.

“It’s tight, that’s for sure,” he said. “It’s tighter than I thought it was going to be, even with the change of Rangers manager, I thought Celtic were just a wee bit ahead in terms of planning and recruitment and structure. But that’s not the case.

“I wouldn’t like to pick a winner at the moment. I have to say. I probably lean a little bit towards Celtic just because they’ve been over the course.

“Rangers have done fantastically well. The new manager has come in and really got them going again, got them very, very well organised. Very, very good on the attack. They’ve always been fairly decent at the back, but on the attack side of it, they’ve changed. They’re much more clinical.

“They’ve got really good players, so I’d hate to have to call it.”

Current form and past success mean nothing in Rangers v Celtic

There is a rich history between these two clubs that reaches far beyond football, but none of it matters on Sunday.

When the teams emerge from the tunnel and onto the pitch at Ibrox, all that matters is the next 90 minutes. Recent form is disregarded, and previous experience in these games is of limited use.

The scenarios are dramatically different from previous years, when Rangers struggled to keep up and Celtic dominated the league.

While Brendan Rodgers’ side now leads the table, Rangers are in the driving seat in the title battle, and Philippe Clement will expect his squad to give their all, as they have since he took over.

Things are changing in Glasgow, and a win on Sunday might mark the end of the Hoops’ reign in this rivalry.
