Rangers coach Philippe Clement bizarrely argues that Rangers achieved more than Celtic when comparing their records.

Everyone at Rangers would have signed for Philippe Clement’s performance in his first six months with the club.

The Light Blues won the Viaplay Cup early in the Belgian’s tenure, and they advanced to the Scottish Cup final with a comfortable win against Heart of Midlothian last Sunday. Furthermore, Clement’s team is still a strong contender for the Premiership crown with five games remaining.

Rangers have faced criticism for failing to overcome Ross County and Dundee in recent weeks, leaving them three points behind Celtic in the league rankings.

However, ahead of the post-split fixtures beginning this weekend, he acknowledged that he’s been examining both his and city opponents’ play heading into the run-in, and realised that the Gers have actually achieved more since he replaced Michael Beale in October.

“For me it’s also an evaluation moment, always, the split,” he stated.

“You can see okay, everybody has played against everybody, the same amount of games. So, if we look back in the last six months when we have been working here together, then we are the team which took the most points.

“We took four points more than Celtic in that period. If you look to only games in the Premiership against Premiership teams then it’s even more because we won also the cup final, and we won against Hearts and they had to draw against Aberdeen.

“So, everybody in the club would have signed for that six months ago, and nobody believed that would be possible.

“It’s now repeating that again. It’s not a guarantee, it’s nothing. But it’s something they have proven already, and now they need to prove it again the next six games.

“All scenarios are possible and that can make a lot of change still in this five final games.

“Alex (Rae) told me once that he became champion, the last four games, he was five points behind for example.

“Everything is possible, so again it’s good for you guys (the press) that there are a lot of scenarios possible, and things to write about, and for us it’s about thinking about the next game and doing everything possible to win that game and to be focused on that.”
