Two days after the Dingwall disaster, the media’s aim is to “Rally the Ibrox troops”. It’s still in their hands; all they need to do is come to Celtic Park and beat us on our home turf.
That is what winning the title comes down to, according to loudmouth Simon Jordan in yesterday’s Record.
Now, tell me if I am wrong, but didn’t they lose to Ross County on Sunday? That did happen, right?
YET, THE MEDIA AND SIMON JORDAN PLACE ALL OF THEIR TITLE HOPE ON BEATING US AT CELTIC PARK.
They do have to play five more teams in the top six, right?
However, Simon Jordan has utterly discounted the fact that Ross County defeated them on Sunday, and did so convincingly. Despite the fact that they were humiliated on Sunday, their attitude is unbelievable.
You would think it would be more vital to advise the Ibrox team to focus on preventing future mistakes rather than simply beating us, wouldn’t you?
And, considering on their performance on Sunday, does Simon Jordan really believe they can “lay a glove” on us when they return to Celtic Park following the split?
They have lost every game against us at Celtic Park when there are no away fans. Unlike them, we have emphasised that advantage.
I have no doubt that we will do this again. Jordan believes Philippe Clement is “thoroughly fed up” following his side’s defeat to Ross County.
Yet he still does not acknowledge the possibility of another slip up like this happening.
Here’s what he said in that article:
“I listened to him [Philippe Clement] and saw a little bit of the game. I listened to his speech afterwards where he’s thoroughly fed up.
You saw him turn on his heel after the result, walk straight down the tunnel and he didn’t pull any punches about what he thought about the performance. It’s disappointing you want the jeopardy of the real stuff. Now R*****s have got to do what I accused them of being unable to do last week with [Graeme] Souness and that’s lay a glove on Celtic.
Are they going to win this league now? They can’t win this league by not beating Celtic. Now they’ve got to go to Celtic Park and they’ve got to beat them to win the league and win their game in hand.”
I’ll simplify that slightly for Jordan.
They can’t win this league by not beating Hearts, Kilmarnock, St. Mirren or Dundee. As well as Celtic. Because in case he hadn’t noticed, they have to face those sides too.
BUT JORDAN, IN HIS ARROGANCE, HAS COMPLETELY DISMISSED THE OTHER TEAMS IN THE TOP 6.
Who are all there on merit, following a solid season that had some pretty strong outcomes for several of them.
So it will require a lot more than just “laying a glove on Celtic”. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, tensions are already jangling at Ibrox. Many of them have been shocked by Sunday’s verdict, and old doubts are resurfacing.
Not only for the athletes, but also for the fans. In fact, based on the following WhatsApp, some Ibrox fans have been telling some home truths:
Can’t argue with that, can I? It corroborates a lot of what I’ve written already on Tavernier.
It’s just interesting that this particular text is from an Ibrox point of view. Serial Loser and bottle merchant.
Fact. They said it, not me. Now, I know Simon Jordan would love to see the Ibrox side win the League this season, simply because he’s stated he’s sick of Celtic winning it.
BUT THE REASON THIS KEEPS HAPPENING IS EPITOMISED IN THAT SINGLE WHATSAPP MESSAGE.
It always comes down to this. Serial losers. No bottle. Now, if they could bottle what Celtic has, the story would be different. You see, serial winners keep winning. In contrast, what about serial losers? So, do you get where I’m going with this? Simon Jordan needs to know that these post-split games are about more than simply Celtic and the Ibrox.
I have enough respect for the other top six clubs to recognise that two of them have already caused us significant problems this season. We have suffered far more than the Ibrox side.
HEARTS HAVE BEATEN US TWICE THIS SEASON, AND SO TOO, HAVE KILMARNOCK.
So I will not dismiss them out of hand. I’m not going to say that all we have to do is beat Ibrox at home and we’ll win the league. What I’ll say is that we need to beat both Hearts and Kilmarnock to win this title. And we have to beat them convincingly.
But I will say this: it is unusual for Celtic to make a mistake in a situation like this, this late in the season. We have the determination to see this through. But unlike Simon Jordan, I don’t take anything for granted.
