Paulo Bernardo tosses off an old Scottish cliché as the Celtic star returns and his focus is all on the Rangers.

He opened the scoring in Celtic’s 2-1 victory in December with a thunderous strike, marking his first taste of the derby.

In order to cause Rangers even more Old Firm suffering, Paulo Bernardo maintains that he is prepared to hit the restart button.

The Celtic midfielder scored the first goal of the derby in a 2-1 victory last December, launching a powerful volley. Even if the Portuguese playwright has secured his place in history, he is certain that a fresh season against the only serious contenders for their Premiership title would guarantee that the past is forgotten.

Bernardo has cautioned the Hoops that they will not be caught taking a trip down memory lane when Light Blues manager Philippe Clement and his team arrive on Paradise Way this lunchtime. “My first Old Firm game was great,” he remarked. It was my first game versus the Rangers, so I am aware of how important the match is. Thus, I was ecstatic—even more so after winning.

“But this is a different match, even though I have wonderful recollections of the fixture. Now when a new season has arrived, we must repeat this.

After the goal, I received messages from my own country. Every goal against the Rangers is exceptional, so I have to get them to speak about the next one now that everyone spoke about the last one. I’m glad I got to play in them because the derby is the best game we have here. It’s a really good game.

After the 22-year-old’s successful loan from Benfica the previous season, Brendan Rodgers decided to sign him to a five-year, £3.5 million contract. Bernardo has also lived in Glasgow long enough to understand that securing three league points is a prerequisite for any bragging rights.

The champions would go five points ahead of the Ibrox team after four league games if Celtic won. Although he adds a disclaimer, Bernardo acknowledges that it would be a significant statement.

Certainly, he replied. We will advance further if we defeat the Rangers. But keep in mind that Aberdeen is also on nine points.

The league consists of more than just two clubs. Rangers is a major Scottish club, of course, but we are still competing for three points.

Therefore, we must approach each game in the same manner. Rangers, Hearts, and Hibs are the possible combinations, although each is worth three points.

We are aware that we will be playing against a very skilled opponent in this one, though. Furthermore, we will not benefit from these points if we lose the remaining games. Throughout the season, we must remain consistent.
