Following last week’s hearing, the Premier League plans to publish its decision on Everton’s second PSR charge.
In an unprecedented season, the Toffees and Nottingham Forest have been sanctioned for last year’s record losses. Everton’s second hearing took place from Monday, April 25, to Wednesday, April 27.
It’s unclear what Everton’s punishment will entail or when it will be announced, but football finance expert Kieran Maguire has tried to shed light on when Evertonians will find out their club’s fate.
Everton could be docked points tomorrow
Talking on the Price of Football Podcast [7mins 10 seconds], Maguire suggested a verdict could be announced on Friday.
“The second hearing has taken place, and we are anticipating a verdict published, I think, possibly on Friday, but probably more likely on Monday or Tuesday,” he explained.
On what he expects to happen regarding the Premier League’s punishment, he added: “With regards to the verdict of the commission, the losses are higher than anticipated. I think the expectation in terms of a points deduction are not as positive as I was feeling.”
Who has been involved in Everton’s second PSR hearing?
Laurence Rabinowitz was instrumental in reducing Everton’s initial Premier League PSR charge to six points; however, the KC did not participate in last week’s session.
According to The Athletic, the 63-year-old participated in the “preparatory” steps prior to the second hearing. Following Forest’s dismissal, Everton will be hoping for a less severe punishment this time.
Ideally, one or two points will be deducted, allowing Sean Dyche and his team to concentrate on the task at hand. The sooner the ambiguity surrounding the club’s league standing is resolved, the better.
Hopefully, the 2023/24 season will be the last time Everton fans hear PSR and FFP at Goodison Park.
