According to Alan Pardew, Sean Dyche went “absolutely mental” on the touchline at Old Trafford after Everton fell behind despite starting “so well”.
The former Premier League manager reacted live on talkSPORT’s website (9 March), after Manchester United scored against the run of play with a Bruno Fernandes penalty after James Tarkowski fouled Alejandro Garnacho.
“Sean Dyche is going absolutely mental down there about something. I’m not sure what exactly, but he’s infuriated, and he must be because his team started so well, but to give away a sloppy penalty like that and to be 1-0 down, I bet he can’t believe it.”
“It feels like there could be loads of goals in this game – it’s chances galore!”
Sean Dyche enraged as Everton shoot themselves in the foot at Old
If Dyche was upset about giving the advantage to Erik ten Hag’s struggling United, he would have been furious when Ben Godfrey repeated the trick midway through the half.
The Toffees had the better of the first 45 minutes at Old Trafford, but their usual inability to capitalise on opportunities left them with nothing to show for their efforts.
And Tarkowski and Godfrey’s brainless defending, which resulted in a pair of clear penalties, left their teammates at the bottom of a mountain to climb, with only star man Jarrad Branthwaite and Jordan Pickford holding it together at the back.
It was a half to sum up the experience of being an Everton supporter this season, as anything good, and there was plenty with Dwight McNeil looking especially sharp, comprehensively squandered through the usual combination of bad luck and self-flagellation.
There was a lot to like about the overall performance, but Dyche would have found it difficult to focus on it when it was completely wasted, with the damage done and a disappointing 2-0 loss against poor opponents.
