Daniel Farke’s squad now leads England’s second division on goal differential, but Enzo Maresca’s team has a game in hand on the Whites ahead of the Good Friday (March 29)) EFL matchups.

While Leeds appear to be in control, Parlour has revealed that he was startled by the Whites’ ascent up the table, since he expected Leicester to “run away with it” this season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (29 March, 6:08), he said: “It’s fantastic to see the top of the league now; who would have thought Leeds would be top at this stage when Leicester looked like they were going to run away with it?

“It just shows you that, they kept going Leeds now they’re top of the league and obviously Leicester have got the game in hand.

“Southampton will be hoping that they can get back to winning ways after their unbeaten run, they lost a few games in a row it looked like they were out of it, but they’ve still got a chance with the games in hand. It’s so exciting.

“It’s going to go down to the wire, that top of the table, it’s going to be intriguing to see what happens.”

Now that the international break is over, Leeds United will be completely focused on the championship’s final stretch, where they have the opportunity to not only return to the Premier League but also win another league title.

While Leicester have been awful in recent weeks, they have demonstrated under Maresca that they are more than capable of generating an excellent run of form at any time, so the Whites should not write them off just yet.

Most analysts believe it will be a three-way contest for automatic promotion between Farke’s team, Leicester, and Ipswich, but Southampton cannot be counted out after looking unbeatable for much of 2024.

Hopefully, Leeds will find a way to continue their winning streak and secure a place in the Premier League this season. They’ve proven they can beat anyone this season; now they just need to do it for another month.
