As Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis attempted to earn a charging foul on Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, the superstar’s elbow struck him solidly in the shoulder area.
Scary Injury Reports for Anthony Davis, LeBron James
After the game, Davis stated that he “couldn’t really move” his shoulder. Because of the structure of the chest region, the cause of his damage is clear. However, the Lakers needed to identify the nature of his injury and, as a result, the recuperation schedule.
He is notoriously prone to injury, and this is his second season playing at least 60 games since being dealt to Los Angeles in the summer of 2019. This is his first time since 2019–20.
Davis has been chastised during his time with the Lakers for his play, which has been nearly as sporadic as his availability. However, Davis is one of the league’s best two-way players, averaging 24.7 points and 2.4 blocks per game this season. As a result, he is almost as vital to Los Angeles’ playoff aspirations as the other player on their injury list.
LeBron James Experiencing ‘Severe Soreness’
Meanwhile, LeBron James has “severe (left ankle) soreness,” according to Khobi Price of the Southern California News Group, and will miss Friday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks. Though head coach Darvin Ham says James is “day-to-day,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin describes it as a “wear and tear” issue.
A Troubling History
Go back to March 2021. James was ruled out indefinitely in late March due to a severe right ankle sprain. This was James’ first severe ankle injury, coming just a year after his first major ailment, a groin strain that forced him to miss a then-career-high 17 straight games. The ankle sprain would cause him to miss 20 consecutive games, the longest span of his career.
After returning to the court, James stated, “I don’t think I will ever get back to 100%…”
James was never considered an oracle, yet he made an accurate prediction that day. In March 2022, James sprained his left ankle after stomping on the foot of then-New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes. The Lakers were eliminated from postseason contention a week later, and James missed the remainder of the 2022–23 season due to left ankle pain.
A year later, James was ruled out of Los Angeles’ first game following the 2024 All-Star Weekend due to another left ankle ailment. Even in a vacuum, the injury was concerning, particularly for a 39-year-old with 1,759 career games. Given his history of ankle issues, it’s considerably more concerning, if not terrifying.
His recuperation schedule, however, remains indefinite. When James is described as day-to-day, it is more of an understanding that James’ thoughts about playing on his ankle will be determined by the situation at hand.

“Some games are better than others,” James said after the Lakers fell to the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. “I didn’t feel it at all against OKC [on Monday]. And I didn’t feel it at all until the fourth quarter tonight. So, each game, each day is different.”
