Newcastle are already laying out preparations for the summer transfer window, and Eddie Howe may target a Premier League opponent if PSG solidify their interest in Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle have identified Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White as one of their top summer transfer targets as they deal with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
To stay within the Premier League’s financial constraints, one of their players, almost definitely the talismanic Bruno Guimaraes, may have to be sacrificed to allow manager Eddie Howe to strengthen in different areas.
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are fans of the combative Brazilian, who has a release clause worth over £100 million.
And at the very least, that would give Howe the purchasing capacity to work his way through a short list of possible close-season buys, which includes Forest midfielder Gibbs-White.
The England Under-21 international has been a revelation at the City Ground this season, and the £50 million-rated star has admirers in the Premier League, including Arsenal.
The Toon have also been after Gibbs-White’s Forest teammate, Welsh international Neco Williams, who can play full-back or midfield, Leicester City’s Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, who is also wanted by Brighton, and Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe.
This is why Newcastle would prefer to have Guimaraes’ future determined early in the summer, giving Howe a better idea of how much his transfer budget will be.
