“My commitment to Newcastle is unwavering and it has been since I came to the football club,” Eddie Howe rebuffs England

As the highest-ranked English manager in the Premier League, Howe was bound to be linked with the England post once Southgate stepped down. Given his coaching skills and dedication to attacking football, he would be a popular candidate among many.

When asked about the England position, Howe walked a fine line between emphasizing his loyalty to his current employers and appreciating possible suitors at the FA.

The former Bournemouth manager said: “My commitment to Newcastle is unwavering and it has been since I came to the football club. As long as I have certain things for me – as in I’m happy, I’m allowed to work in the way I need to work in order to get the best out of me and I feel supported – then that will never change.”

He added: “England is not important at all. It’s all about Newcastle United Football Club. I’m so proud to be the manager. I’ve loved every single second of managing the club since I’ve been here, I feel passionately about bringing success here long term.”

Some argue that the industrious 46-year-old is too young for what is really a part-time job. He may still like the day-to-day responsibilities of being a club manager; it’s a case of right guy, wrong time. Newcastle fans will surely hope so.
