Pundit says 26-year-old bargain now has the quality to be absolutely brilliant if he signed for Newcastle United this summer.

Callum Wilson’s future at Newcastle United this summer could be called into question as his injuries prevent the England player from pushing on. It might be time for him to leave Newcastle.

West Ham set to renew interest in Dominic Solanke

The 32-year-old is nearing the end of his contract with Newcastle, having made only 22 appearances this season and presently out with a chest injury. Nonetheless, he has scored eight.

Wilson is undoubtedly a superb marksman, but his injuries prevent him from playing. Wilson has missed 23 games this season, making him unavailable more often than he has been available.

While Newcastle would love to have Wilson – or a fit version of the former Bournemouth player – as a backup to Alexander Isak, Wilson’s departure at the end of the season may benefit all parties involved.

Callum Wilson expected to leave Newcastle United this summer

That is according to Don Hutchison, who spoke with ESPN FC about Wilson’s future over the weekend and identified a potential replacement. He mentioned Dom Solanke of Bournemouth as a potential candidate.

England international Solanke, however, is having his greatest season yet, and while Wilson may have passed his peak, Solanke, at only 26, still has plenty of time to reach it. He has nineteen goals.

Bournemouth’s £24 million signing, a summer target for Tottenham, has been described as “unbelievable” by Scott Parker. Newcastle were connected in January and were rumoured to have made an offer during the previous transfer window.

What Don Hutchison said about Newcastle signing Solanke

Hutchison said: “Solanke would be a good replacement for Callum Wilson, in truth. I think it is time Wilson moved on – he’s a brilliant player when fit but can’t seem to stay fit. Solanke to Newcastle.”

Solanke would be a national signing. However, the question for Newcastle in luring him is whether he would be content as the club’s backup striker to Isak. That is, assuming they can keep Isak in St. James’ Park.

Eddie Howe knows Solanke well, having signed him at The Vitality, which might be useful in negotiating a deal. It is unknown whether Solanke wants to leave Bournemouth ahead of the summer transfer window.
