Following Chelsea’s loss, Eddie Howe gives an update on a key players injuries.

Newcastle United had a horrible night against Chelsea on Monday, made worse by Anthony Gordon’s injury.

The Magpies were defeated 3-2 at Stamford Bridge, and their awful effort resulted in zero points. It was exactly what Newcastle United deserved after such a poor performance.

It was a dismal evening that began with Harvey Barnes not being named to the bench. He missed out owing to a hamstring issue, and another Newcastle winger has developed a problem.

Anthony Gordon was forced off during the first half against Chelsea, and Jacob Murphy took his place in the 36th minute.

The 23-year-old started on the left wing, but he did not look like himself, unable to track back and defend Dan Burn. This contributed to Chelsea’s first goal of the game, scored by Nicolas Jackson.

Gordon then shifted to the right wing, but a challenge from Marc Cucurella res prompted the Newcastle number 10 to come off.

And now Eddie Howe has explained what is wrong with the winger.

Eddie Howe says Anthony Gordon suffered a knee injuryKey Newcastle injuries concern Howe ...

Following the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, Howe talked with Sky Sports Main Event and provided an update on Anthony Gordon.

“I can’t really add too much to it other than it was a knee injury,” he said.

“Strange. There was no moment that he felt it. It was just there in the game.

“Anthony at half time – he was in quite a bit of pain. We don’t quite know how bad it is.”

Hopefully not another major injury for Newcastle United

Gordon’s injury, similar to the one he sustained earlier this season during the Carabao Cup encounter at Stamford Bridge, is devastating. He clearly does not love visiting the stadium.

Gordon has yet to miss a game due to injury this season. He has been so dependable for Howe this season, despite the fact that several Newcastle United players have suffered injuries.

The former Everton player has only missed one match, which was due to suspension. He’s always been fit and decisive.

He’s had a great season in black and white, and hopefully he won’t have to sit out for a while.

It is unclear whether he will miss any games, with Newcastle’s next FA Cup match against Manchester City coming up on Saturday evening.
