Nottingham Forest were docked four points on Monday, and the club’s actions this morning suggest they’re still unhappy about the ordeal.

Brian Clough, the renowned manager, would have turned 89 today. The renowned boss died tragically in 2003, and his impact will live on in the hearts of Forest supporters forever.

Clough won two European Cups with Forest, and the only prize that eluded him during his career was the FA Cup, which he said was a major regret when he departed.

Despite being one of the greatest in the industry, Clough is likely to have despised the modern game. VAR would not have been his thing, and the fact that point deductions are now commonplace in football would not have appealed to him.

Forest are evidently still very angry with the Premier League’s decision. Today, they’ve neatly utilized Clough’s birthday to remind the world of one of his most famous remarks.

The club released on X a photo of Clough wearing in his signature green jumper, with the quote: “We feel we should have a voice in running our industry. And I do mean ours, I don’t mean mind; I mean ours, because football belongs to everybody.”

We believe this is a clear statement from the football club. It’s a dig at the Premier League, with the powers that be seemingly hellbent on punishing Everton and Forest while allowing Chelsea and Manchester City to do whatever they want.

Clough remembered on birthday

Brian Clough - Biography - IMDb

Clough’s success with Forest will never be duplicated at the City Ground. He lead a newly promoted squad to a European Cup triumph and then went and won it again the following season.

Furthermore, Clough was arguably the best manager that the England national team has ever had. To be fair, he was never a yes guy, and the Football Association would not have wanted someone like that in control of their squad.

It’s always good to remember Clough at Forest. Okay, the golden days of his stay are a distant memory, but the Reds will try to remain in the Premier League this season with the hopes of making more memories in the future.
