Nottingham Forest could learn the verdict of their appeal over their four-point deduction before the end of the season in what could be a genuine shake-up for the Premier League relegation battlers
Nottingham Forest may learn the decision of their appeal against the four-point deduction before the end of the Premier League season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team was fined four points last month for violating Profitability and Sustainability guidelines (PSR), plunging them firmly into the relegation zone, where they currently lie only one point above the bottom three.
The club appealed the sentence, which is expected to begin after next Sunday’s (April 21) vital relegation encounter against Everton, who saw a points loss of ten reduced to six on appeal earlier this year before they were slapped with a second points deduction this campaign.
According to The Telegraph, Forest hopes to have their sentence lowered by at least one point, but the Premier League faces a race against time to reach a decision before the season’s final day on May 19th.
Forest is not entitled to add fresh evidence at the appeal, but they remain dissatisfied with the earlier verdict. They claim Brennan Johnson’s £47.5 million sale to Tottenham Hotspur was mostly overlooked after his departure was postponed in order to gain a higher price.
The appeal will be heard by a three-person independent commission, with a final decision due in early May. It is stated that the chances of their points deduction being enhanced are slim.
Forest were restricted to a 2-2 draw at home against Wolves on Saturday (April 13), moving them one point ahead of 18th-placed Luton Town, who were pounded 5-1 by Manchester City at the Etihad.
The Tricky Trees welcome Manchester City and Chelsea to the City Ground following their visit to Goodison Park. On the final day of the season, they face potentially critical away journeys to hapless Sheffield United and Burnley, who could already be relegated.
