Howard Webb is about to agree that Nottingham Forest should have received a penalty in their 2-0 loss to Everton, but only for one of the three incidences.

Howard Webb is expected to come clean by confessing Nottingham Forest were denied a penalty in their match against Everton.

After three penalty appeals were knocked down in their 2-0 defeat at Goodison, Forest made a bizarre statement on social media, alleging they had “warned” PGMOL before the match that VAR Stuart Attwell “was a Luton fan”. Forest then went on to request that Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) modify its regulations on official allegiances to allow for “contextual rivalries in the league table,” rather than merely local rivalries.

While Forest is in hot trouble for their inflammatory claims, they have been allowed access to listen to a recording of Attwell’s interactions with on-field referee Anthony Taylor. Meanwhile, Webb, the head of referees at PGMOL, is anticipated to agree that one of the three penalty appeals should have been granted.

Webb will make the admission on the ‘Match Officials Mic’d Up’ show tonight (Tuesday). According to ESPN, the Premier League’s own Key Match Incidents Panel believes VAR should have interfered when Callum Hudson-Odoi went down following an Ashley Young challenge, but it was correct to disregard the two previous pleas, as reported by the Mirror.

Forest’s original statement, delivered only five minutes after the final whistle at Goodison, read: “Three extremely poor decisions.” three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options.”

Meanwhile, the club’s refereeing advisor, Mark Clattenburg, wrote in his Daily Mail column: “One of these errors would have been bad enough. Three was a joke, and that is why Nottingham Forest were left feeling victimised after another defeat where not a single big decision went their way.”

However, Forest have been widely slammed with Alan Shearer calling their statement an “absolute embarrassment” and blasting: “What the f*** were they doing?”
