‘Very interesting’… Dermot Gallagher explains what he heard the VAR say about the Ryan Yates incident.

Ryan Yates and James Maddison were involved in an incident during the first half. A former referee has revealed what he was informed regarding the flash point.

Forest made an earnest effort at Tottenham. Chris Wood equalised for the Reds following a Murillo own goal, but then missed a sitter, earning criticism from Gary Lineker.

Forest, however, was not to have his way that day. Tottenham rallied quickly in the second half, with goals from Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro securing the victory.

Finally, it was one of those games in which Forest may feel they could have done more. The second half was rather uninspiring, but maybe, the Reds can learn

One major incident occurred in the first half against Tottenham, involving Yates and Maddison. The Tottenham man looked to strike the Forest skipper in the stomach, but VAR ignored it.

Michael Salisbury served as the VAR for Sunday’s game. This isn’t the first time he’s been involved in a controversy this season. He didn’t award Wolves a stonewall penalty against Manchester United.

On this instance, he made another poor decision that had a negative consequence on Forest. Maddison looked to strike Yates in the stomach, but he got away with it and was not even warned for his actions.

Gallagher was listening to the video assistant referee throughout the first half of the Forest game. Now he’s revealed what Salisbury was quoted as saying while reviewing the decision for referee Simon Hooper.

He told Sky Sports News: “This was particularly fascinating since it was brought up by VAR. I listened to the VAR and I saw this while I was waiting for the VAR (Yates gesturing for VAR). Someone pointed out to me that he’d already got a yellow card and that this was going to be a very interesting decision.

“The VAR came to the conclusion, his words and I quote him on this on the day and that was that there was no evidence of violent conduct. That’s his choice. The referee has no choice. He’s directed by the VAR and if he says there is no evidence, he can’t see it again.

“All I can say is what he said. He feels there is no evidence of violent conduct. I think he’s really lucky. If you do that on a football field and you get sent off you haven’t got a leg to stand on.”

Forest must now regain focus

There isn’t much shame in losing a game away against Tottenham. Okay, it would have been good if Forest had gotten something, but it’s not going to be season-defining.

The Reds will now need to regroup. The City Ground will host Wolves, and Everton will play away from home.

The evidence is quite apparent that Maddison should have been sent off for punching out at Yates, and who knows what more could have transpired.

Forest, on the other hand, has no options at this point. Finally, the club must properly prepare this week for two major games against teams they believe they can beat.
