“Its dark days at the Club” pundit makes Brian Clough claim when discussing Nottingham Forest sorry situation

The Forest issue has divided views to some extent. When Forest was promoted, they lost a lot of players, and most people can see why so many new players were added.

Gary Neville says something 'crazy' has happened at Nottingham Forest and it's worrying him - Nottingham Forest News

It’s fair to argue that Forest signed far too many contracts. Ultimately, it has come back to bite them in the behind, and the team must now accept their four-point punishment – though the club has filed an appeal.

During an appearance on The Overlap: The Fan Debate, Neville made an allegation concerning Brian Clough’s tenure at Forest. He is not fully convinced that he would be satisfied with the current leadership and how things are handled at City Ground.

He said: “I have to say, you’re Nottingham Forest, and I don’t know much about your football club other than the fact that I’ve watched it and followed it for 30, 40, 50 years.

“It’s got a rich history with a man who used to be at the helm in Brian Clough who is an absolute legend. What do you think he would make of the casual way in which Forest has broken the rules?

“You talk about the integrity of the football club and the history of it, why would you even want your club’s reputation to be ruined by breaking the rules? We’ve got to come away from that.”

Neville does not make any poor points. That being said, it’s difficult to picture the great Forest manager enjoying much of football in the contemporary day, and he surely wouldn’t appreciate how the top six appear overprotected.

Clough never criticized officiating. Even with technology, referees make mistakes on a regular basis.

Neville is correct in stating that Clough would not have embraced Forest’s blase approach to the regulations.

However, Marinakis is in charge of the football club, and he can do whatever he wants with it.

The goal is that Forest will learn from this whole ordeal. If the club can become a savvy transfer market performer, Forest fans may one day be able to expect that Neville will say something great about the club.
