“I hate admitting that” Rangers legend Derek Ferguson left disgusted by what Rangers have done for Celtic.

Derek Ferguson believes the Rangers can win the Scottish Cup, but has conceded the SPFL crown to Celtic.

I could have lived my life better when I was younger. I was an angry man, it was who I was'

The former Ibrox midfielder dislikes admitting that the league is probably out of reach, but believes the Light Blues “threw it away” with their shock defeat by Ross County, followed by a goalless draw in the twice-rescheduled trip to Dens Park to face Dundee.

Philippe Clement’s side is still three points behind Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops with a final Old Firm derby at Parkhead to come, but a goal differential of five places behind them may leave them yearning for dropped points across the city.

Ferguson, on the other hand, is looking forward to a “mouthwatering” cup final against the same opponents following the shocking revelation that it has been over two decades since the last time the showpiece was contested as a Glasgow derby.

“We can do the double, absolutely, I’m pretty sure of that. I’m looking forward to the cup final,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“The league, we had it in our hands but the two games against County and Dundee we basically threw it away. So I’ll honest, and I hate admitting that, I don’t see us winning the league.

“But the cup final, I cannae wait for it. It’s going to be on at three o’clock as well on a Saturday afternoon, 25 May, mouthwatering so it is.

“We’ve not had one for 22 years, which when I found out, I think it was Ally, Coisty, who mentioned it a few days ago. I couldn’t believe that it had been that long.

Brendan Rodgers between Philippe Clement and Rangers treble

On current form, it would be surprising if the Gers overcame Celtic for the second time and reclaimed the title at Ibrox, with the Bhoys potentially dropping points while Rangers collect all of theirs.

Clement deserves credit for capturing the title race so close to the conclusion of the season, when Michael Beale’s start suggested it would be sealed up long before the split, and a vitally significant first win at Parkhead in nearly four years might yet turn things around.

But just as Rodgers and his team appeared to be failing in late February and early March, the Light Blues failed to take advantage and slipped out of form themselves, potentially leaving a major occasion at Hampden as the final shot at silverware.
