Brendan Rodgers offers Rangers fuel for a Parkhead upset, but will they respond?

Brendan Rodgers and Celtic have had just as exciting a season as Rangers have.

Michael Beale’s dismal start to the season appeared to have given the Northern Irish manager a welcome relief after a rocky start to life at Parkhead.

However, Philippe Clement’s second-half revival saw Rangers inexplicably gain the title lead and then lose it in an agonising five-game Scottish Premiership run.

Between fan protests, faltering football, failed transfers, and haughty rhetoric, Rangers had the opportunity to tie Brendan Rodgers to the wall this season, but missed it spectacularly, as various members of this team have done all too frequently.

While it is not quite finished yet, according on the Celtic manager’s most recent comments, it appears he certainly believes it is.

Rodgers: Celtic ready to have fun v Rangers

Following Celtic’s 3-0 victory over Hearts, Rodgers is upbeat ahead of a season-defining Old Firm meeting with Rangers next weekend.

The Parkhead club’s lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership has been increased to six points, and if Rangers fail to overcome Kilmarnock at Ibrox, the title can be wrapped up in front of their home fans.
It’s a horrible possibility for Rangers fans, and it’s added to the already difficult visit of Derek McInnes’ Killie side.

Rangers are not helped, as they never are, by a slew of terrible injury issues. Before a ball has even been kicked next weekend.

The game, it appears, is already won and more than that, the green and white bunting has already been looked out.

“80% of it now is mental,” said Rodgers. “Physically in the main they’re in a good place, really good place.

“This stage of the season it’s all mentality and mentally you can see we’re in a really good place.

“But take nothing for granted, keep our composure, got a lot of work to do in the week, get our plan ready, and then next Saturday we’ll have a bit of fun then.”

Can Rangers team pull off Celtic Park upset?

Brendan Rodgers looks to be so confident that his Rangers squad would collapse at Parkhead that he can speak with such casual arrogance.

And why shouldn’t he feel confident?

But, if this Rangers team manages to get into that Parkhead Old Firm with the potential of drawing level at the top of the Scottish Premiership, do you really believe the team will deliver?
